Crissy Cummings - Lookin' Fine with a Country/Pop Twang
By Holly Day, MusicDish.com

Cummings' rich twang is wonderfully set off by a backdrop of piano and guitar that makes for just a little bit of pop in her country, bouncy and optimistic and infectiously catchy.

While Crissy Cummings may be an unfamiliar name to people outside of her haunts in Arizona, she's certainly no stranger to the stage. She first began performing in public at the tender age of three, when she started singing to supplement her act at child beauty pageants. "I guess my mom just thought that getting me up there and having me sing was a good idea," explains Crissy. "Eventually, singing turned out to be my main focus. It's the only thing I've ever wanted to do sincečthat, and be an astronaut." She laughs, "I've always thought being an astronaut would be the coolest thing. I'm really glad I didn't do that now, but at the time, it was a choice between being a singer or an astronaut."

Cummings grew up in Arizona, the youngest of eight children in an otherwise-unmusical family. While it might seem that a family that large might struggle to lavish attention on one child's musical aspirations, Cummings' parents apparently had no trouble doing so. "My mom, definitely, has been my biggest supporter, always, and my stepfather," says Cummings. "All of us, we've all gotten tons and tons of support from our parents and from each other in everything we've pursued."

More than likely, it's this familial support that has given Cummings the confidence to continue to go out on stage and perform as an adult - a confidence that makes its presence known in her music. Her single, "Lookin' Fine," is an excellent example of what this artist is capable of. Cummings' rich twang is wonderfully set off by a backdrop of piano and guitar that makes for just a little bit of pop in her country, bouncy and optimistic and infectiously catchy. "There really isn't a reoccurring theme to my music," she says of her work. "I like to identify with my music, but there's no reoccurring thing in particular. I mean, my songs can be just about anything, and I can probably find some way to identify with each one."

Cummings has plans to put together an album soon, but is still trying to put together enough of what she feels is good enough material to release on her debut - a far cry from many artists who rush into filling their first album with every song they've ever written up to that point. Meanwhile, another of her songs, "At Christmas Time" featured on "Southwest Christmas, The True Meaning Of Love," will be available on DVD and CD this November, and Cummings will be starring in the movie "Christmas Spirit," set for release in December 2003.
